As a sports coach I have been fortunate to work with a variety of teams and individuals over the last 20 years, from those just starting out to those representing at national level. I have also had the pleasure of being able to work with and observe some fantastic coaches from whom I have taken great inspiration. Although I have always been a technically minded coach who likes to focus on skills, techniques and creativity, I firmly believe that appropriate physical preparation is equally important in improving an athletes performance. Getting the balance right can make the difference between winning and losing.
"Hard work will always overcome natural talent when natural talent does not work hard enough"
Sir Alex Ferguson.
Sports Conditioning or functional training is about developing the athletes physical components to improve sports performance. Training is therefore focussed upon the specific movements and physical demands of the athletes sport to develop the appropriate neuromuscular responses that will improve performance.
Sports conditioning is also an appropriate pathway for athletes that have been injured. An athlete can engage in this type of training following consultation with their physiotherapist. I am qualified in the rehabilitation of sports injuries however to begin a training programme you must have clearance from your physiotherapist or GP to begin active and functional rehabilitation (Stage 4 & 5).
Every client will undergo a series of tests related to movement, strength and functionality. Following this, assessment of the clients previous performances and future goals will enable me to put together a phased programme of rehabilitation. Each stage will be closely monitored and regular visits to your physiotherapist will be advised. Sessions will involve stretching & strengthening exercises, strength, speed, agility & power training.
